Figure 37. âMedicare for All and Free College Tuition Are Wildly Popular Policies.â121
Many of Bernie Sandersâ followers did not realize that he was offering the wrong solutions to Americaâs true problems. There are many drivers behind the rapidly rising college tuitions, such as increasing marketing costs, salaries, and new facilities. One major unhealthy driver is the expansion of non-teaching bureaucrats in American colleges. From the 1980â1981 school year to the 2014â2015 school year, while instruction spending increased sevenfold, spending on academic support, student services, and institutional support was nine times as great. This was partially caused by too many regulations from the U.S. Department of Education and other governmental agencies.122 Unfortunately, Bernie Sanders isnât interested in cutting regulations and reducing tuition. His socialist offering is free tuition for all!
In the area of healthcare, rising costs are caused by a lack of market competition and the unfair prescription drug prices that Americans have to pay. Nations such as Canada and Northern Europe can buy the same prescription drugs at a fraction of the cost. In addition to this, the United States is taking care of a large percentage of the defense spending of NATO. As a result, these other governments can offer healthcare to their citizens, but Americaâs medical system is on the verge of bankruptcy as America cannot afford care for all its citizens. To solve our healthcare crises, there should be an increase in market competition in the healthcare industry and a reduction in prescription drug costs. Again, Sanders never offers solutions to address the root causes of rising healthcare costs. What he offered is another government spending extravaganza: âMedicare for All!â
In comparison with economic injustice, the radical left has done an incredible job in changing American public opinion on racial justice by manipulating Americansâ sympathy and using lies. It is true and unfortunate that in twenty-first century America, Black Americans are underperforming on economic and educational fronts. In addition, Black Americans have been disproportionately incarcerated because of the high crime rate and drug abuse rate. However, supported by the mainstream media, the radical left has hidden the root causes of the underperformance of Black Americans: dependence on welfare, high crime rates, broken families, high drug abuse rates, and failing public schools in American inner cities. Instead, they fabricated the Critical Race Theory, claiming there is widespread systematic racism against Black, Hispanic, and Native Americans in twenty-first century America.
As I wrote earlier, using Critical Race Theory and disproportionately amplifying small cases of police brutality, using sensational video clips and biased reporting, the liberal media portrays a misleading picture that claims police intentionally target Black Americans, and our criminal justice system practices systematic racism against Black Americans.
On May 25, 2020, after violating laws by using a fake $20 bill in a convenience store, George Floyd was reported by the store owner and detained by the police. Because of his resistance to arrest, the police officer Derek Chauvin used undue force. As a result, George Floyd, experiencing a drug overdose at the same time, died under Derek Chauvinâs knee.
